Q: What is an Softstart or Softstarter?

A: A soft start gradually increases the voltage at the motor input terminals, at a fixed frequency, to limit starting current, which increases starting time and gives a soft start for the motor. An Enclosed Soft Start, sometmes called an Enclosed Soft Start or Enclosed Softstarter, is a Soft Start module factory fitted into an enclosure. 

The enclosure is usually powder coated mild steel with an IP rating of IP65, making the unit mechanically robust, dust and water proof. The enclosure will generally include mains isolator, stop and start buttons and maybe an e-stop button. This means the unit can be quickly and easily installed and set up to run the required application.

It is also possible to customise the enclosure to incorporate a specific clients requirements.
